What we know about you

Almost nothing. ScreenLimit is built so that the interesting data — which apps you open, for how long, what you were looking for — stays on your phone. This page says exactly what that means, and where the exceptions are.

Who is responsible

ScreenLimit, [COMPANY NAME], [ADDRESS], the Netherlands, Chamber of Commerce (KvK) [KVK NUMBER]. Privacy questions: [PRIVACY EMAIL].

In the app: on your phone, and only there

All of this lives in a database on your device and is never sent anywhere:

  • Which apps you chose, and how long you spend in them
  • Every pause: when it happened, what you chose, how long you stayed
  • What you tapped when a pause asked what you needed
  • Your blocks, goals, daily limit and settings
  • Which awareness facts you have seen, and what the on-device lab learned
  • Your weekly reports and your 7-day challenge

You can export all of it as JSON, or delete all of it, from Settings. Uninstalling the app deletes it too. We have no copy, so there is nothing for us to give to anyone, sell, lose in a breach, or be made to hand over.

What the accessibility service sees

Android only lets an app know that you just opened another app through the accessibility service. That is what ScreenLimit uses it for:

  • It sees: which app is in front, and when.
  • Doomscroll limit: in the apps you chose, how far you scroll (the distance a list moved), never what is on screen. After a long scroll it can lay a dimming layer over the screen, if you want that; it takes no taps and goes when you leave the app. You can switch the Doomscroll limit off.
  • It does not: read what you type, read your messages, read the content of apps, tap, scroll or type for you, or send anything anywhere.

Three optional features look at slightly more, and only while you have them switched on:

  • Feed filter checks whether an endless feed (Reels, Shorts, For You) is on screen, only in the apps you picked.
  • Website blocking and Browser AI read the address in your browser's address bar, in the listed browsers only. Not the page, not your tabs, not your searches.

With all three off, the only thing read is the name of the app in front.

No analytics in the app. None.

There is no analytics SDK, no advertising SDK, no crash reporter and no tracker in the app. We genuinely do not know how you use ScreenLimit.

This website

The site is hosted by Cloudflare. To deliver pages and keep attackers out, Cloudflare processes your IP address and browser details for each request; we do not keep logs of them. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits: it sets no cookies, does not follow you across sites and gives us only totals (pages viewed, the site you came from, country, type of device). Our legal basis is our legitimate interest in knowing whether the site works. Cloudflare may process this data outside the EU; it is certified under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework. The site sets no cookies at all, which is why there is no cookie banner.

The waitlist, the 7-day plan and tips by email

There are three ways to give us your email address, all of them your own choice: the waitlist on this site, the free 7-day plan, and the "one short tip a week" card in the app. For each, we store:

  • Your email address
  • Your phone type (Android or iPhone), your language, and whether you'd like to test the beta
  • Where you signed up: which form, or which link brought you (for example a post, or a friend's invite)
  • If a friend invited you: their email address, so we can thank them, and whether you confirmed. Your own invite link carries your email address in encrypted form, and we count how many friends joined through it.
  • When you signed up and confirmed

From the app, only the address you type in is sent, with the app's language — never your screen time or anything else from your phone.

We use this to email you about ScreenLimit: the launch, the beta if you asked for it, the early-bird offer, the 7-day plan, and short tips. The list is kept with Brevo (Sendinblue SAS, France), in the EU. We ask you to confirm by email first (double opt-in); an address that is never confirmed is not added to the list. The legal basis is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time with the unsubscribe link in every email, or by writing to [PRIVACY EMAIL]. Your address is removed as soon as you unsubscribe.

Purchases

If you buy Premium, the purchase goes through Google Play Billing and RevenueCat, our payment service. They receive what is needed to manage it — an anonymous app user id and the purchase itself — never your usage data. The legal basis is the contract with you. Google's own privacy policy applies to your Google account.

Your circle (optional, not yet available)

A later version lets you link with a friend, partner or family member. Only then does a small amount of data leave your phone — your display name, who is in your circle, unlock requests, and your weekly total if you switch that on — stored in the EU (Frankfurt) with access for only the two of you. Which apps you use, your answers and your messages are never shared. This page will be updated before that feature exists.

Age

ScreenLimit is for adults: 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect anything from anyone younger.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you can ask for access to your data, correction, deletion, a copy in a portable format, or object to its use. For everything in the app, Settings does this immediately without asking us. For the waitlist, email [PRIVACY EMAIL] and we answer within 30 days. You can also complain to the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens) or your own national authority. How to delete everything.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that affects what leaves your phone, we say so in the app before the change takes effect — not quietly, in a version note.
